Weather informers for mobile platforms

Weather informers for mobile platforms

For Auriga’s customer, a leading US weather-broadcasting service, Auriga developed new features for an existing mobile application (weather informer).

Auriga’s engineers were tasked to enhance the application with new functionality. The implementation of the customer’s tasks required a broad expertise in the area of mobile solutions development, particularly for Blackberry and Android platforms.

Additionally, Auriga’s expertise in embedded development required for another project from the same customer made Auriga an ideal partner.

The weather informer is a feature-rich mobile application that includes the following functions:

  • current weather display and weather broadcasting
  • severe weather alerts, lightning prediction
  • map overlay to display air mass and front movements over a map (Google Maps and Bing Maps supported)

The following sub-tasks were accomplished in order to successfully complete the development:

  • Use of Google Maps API and Bing Maps API to integrate application with maps
  • Use of Push Notification to implement the alert functionality (available to US users only)
  • Application using a web form to display a set of additional HTML 5 widgets

As a collaboration model, a dedicated development center (DDC) was chosen. The customer requested that SCRUM methodology with two-week sprints be used for the project implementation.

Tools and technologies used included Java, C++, QT framework, J2ME, JSON parser, and XML.
